Scott Thomas, a retired regional sales manager with Caterpillar, father of two and grandfather of six, started his journey in ballroom dancing in January of 2015. Scott received dance lessons as a gift and quickly realized that he liked the idea of competing in ballroom dance. Within two months, Scott competed in his first dancesport event. Since that time he has competed in six more competitions and participated in five ballroom dance showcase events.
Stepping on the floor for his first competition, Scott says he was both excited and nervous, but confident in the fact that Emily had prepared him to start his journey. Scott's interest in dancesport came as a result of of competitive nature. "I have significant expectations for myself. I focus on growth, accomplishment, and fulfillment." Scott says that the pros and intructors he was around recognized those aspects in him and encouraged him to compete.
Although most of Scott's leisure time is spent on the dance floor, he also enjoys golf and tennis as ways to stay active. Scott credits Ballroom Dance Experience owner Emily Mertens with inspiring him to continue his ballroom dance journey. "When Emily and I met for the first time, we started by having some very meaningful discussions. She was quite engaging by asking quesitons with regards to my interests, goals, and background. We continued talking about ballroom dance history, some aspects of the dance industry, music and movement. Our actual lesson was challenging, enjoyable and fun." Together they focus on American Rhythm - Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing, Mambo, Bolero, and Merengue.
